How dividend tracking works
Metrifly detects dividend and distribution events for your holdings, then asks you to confirm what you actually received. This explains how detection works and how to read your income on the Dividends page. By the end, you’ll know where your dividend income comes from and how to keep it accurate.
How detection works
Section titled “How detection works”Each dividend moves through three stages:
- Announced — Metrifly has spotted a declared dividend, but its ex-date hasn’t passed yet.
- Unconfirmed — the ex-date has passed and you held the stock, so Metrifly creates a dividend event awaiting your check.
- Paid — you’ve confirmed it, so it counts in your income, yield, and tax.
Confirming is covered step by step in Confirm your dividends.
Open the Dividends page
Section titled “Open the Dividends page”Go to Performance → Dividends. It summarises the income you’ve received over a period — use the date range bar to change it (it defaults to the last 12 months).

Read the summary strip
Section titled “Read the summary strip”| Cell | What it shows |
|---|---|
| Total Income | Cash dividends and distributions in the period (in AUD), with a year-on-year change |
| Trailing Yield | Dividends received in the range ÷ current value of your open holdings — backward-looking, not a forecast |
| Franking Credits | Australian credits on franked dividends, with the share of income that was franked |
| Next Payment | Your next announced or estimated payment, with ticker and date |
Read the charts and tables
Section titled “Read the charts and tables”- Monthly dividends — a bar chart of cash received each month. Australian equities cluster payments around March/April and September/October, so bigger bars then are normal.
- Income breakdown — a table of individual dividend events (Symbol, Date Paid, Total). The Group by selector organises rows by Holding, Exchange, or Month, each with subtotals. Toggle Unconfirmed only to focus on dividends still awaiting confirmation.
- Top dividend payers — your highest income producers over the trailing 12 months, with each holding’s yield, 12-month income, franking percentage, and a DRP flag.
Export
Section titled “Export”Export downloads an Excel file for the selected range. It’s disabled in group mode — select a single portfolio first.
See upcoming payments
Section titled “See upcoming payments”Performance → Dividends Calendar is a separate paid page that forecasts payments 12 to 36 months ahead. See See upcoming and forecast dividends.
Troubleshooting
Section titled “Troubleshooting”| Problem | Fix |
|---|---|
| A dividend wasn’t detected | Not every payment is picked up automatically. Add it via Add a trade manually as a DIVIDEND transaction. |
| Your income looks lower than expected | Only confirmed dividends count. Confirm any unconfirmed ones — see Confirm your dividends. |
| Export is disabled | Export works on a single portfolio. Switch out of group mode. |
| Your trailing yield looks low | It’s backward-looking — newly bought positions drag it down until they pay. |
