How dividend tracking works

Metrifly detects dividend and distribution events for your holdings, then asks you to confirm what you actually received. This explains how detection works and how to read your income on the Dividends page. By the end, you’ll know where your dividend income comes from and how to keep it accurate.

Each dividend moves through three stages:

  1. Announced — Metrifly has spotted a declared dividend, but its ex-date hasn’t passed yet.
  2. Unconfirmed — the ex-date has passed and you held the stock, so Metrifly creates a dividend event awaiting your check.
  3. Paid — you’ve confirmed it, so it counts in your income, yield, and tax.

Confirming is covered step by step in Confirm your dividends.

Go to Performance → Dividends. It summarises the income you’ve received over a period — use the date range bar to change it (it defaults to the last 12 months).

  • Monthly dividends — a bar chart of cash received each month. Australian equities cluster payments around March/April and September/October, so bigger bars then are normal.
  • Income breakdown — a table of individual dividend events (Symbol, Date Paid, Total). The Group by selector organises rows by Holding, Exchange, or Month, each with subtotals. Toggle Unconfirmed only to focus on dividends still awaiting confirmation.
  • Top dividend payers — your highest income producers over the trailing 12 months, with each holding’s yield, 12-month income, franking percentage, and a DRP flag.

Export downloads an Excel file for the selected range. It’s disabled in group mode — select a single portfolio first.

Performance → Dividends Calendar is a separate paid page that forecasts payments 12 to 36 months ahead. See See upcoming and forecast dividends.
