Edit, fix, or delete a transaction
Made a typo, or imported something twice? You can edit or delete any trade, and Metrifly recalculates your holdings, performance, and tax figures automatically. By the end of this, your history will be correct and everything that depends on it will be back in sync.
Where to make the change
Section titled “Where to make the change”You can edit or delete a trade from two places — both use the same edit form and delete confirmation:
- The Transactions page — best for finding a trade across your whole portfolio.
- A holding’s Trades tab — best when you’re already looking at one security.
Both require a single portfolio to be selected. In a group view, you can look at transactions but not change them.
Edit a transaction
Section titled “Edit a transaction”- Select a single portfolio, then open Transactions from the sidebar (or open a holding and go to its Trades tab).
- Find the trade, then use the ⋯ menu (or right-click the row) and choose Edit.
- Update the details. The edit form has the same fields as the add form: type, ticker, exchange, date, currency, quantity, price, fee, and exchange rate for buys and sells; amount and franking credits for dividends.
- Click Save changes.
Metrifly recalculates your holdings, realised gains, performance history, and tax figures. There’s no undo — if something’s still off, just edit again.
Delete a transaction
Section titled “Delete a transaction”- Find the trade on the Transactions page or a holding’s Trades tab.
- Use the ⋯ menu (or right-click) and choose Delete.
- Confirm in the dialog. Metrifly removes the row and recalculates.
What deleting does:
| Deleted trade | Effect |
|---|---|
| Buy | Quantity and cost basis drop. Deleting the last buy for a ticker removes the holding. |
| Sell | The position is restored and the realised gain removed. |
| Dividend | The income is removed from your reports; your share count is unchanged. |
Large portfolios may show “Recalculating…” for up to a minute.
Fixing a lot of rows at once
Section titled “Fixing a lot of rows at once”If you need to fix many trades, it’s faster to work in a spreadsheet:
- On the Transactions page, open the Export menu and choose Excel (.xlsx). The export respects your active date range and filters.
- Fix the rows in your spreadsheet.
- Delete the incorrect rows in Metrifly.
- Re-import the corrected file.
Troubleshooting
Section titled “Troubleshooting”| Problem | Fix |
|---|---|
| There’s no actions menu on a row | You’re in group mode, or no portfolio is selected. Pick a single portfolio. |
| The Export option is missing | Select a single portfolio — export isn’t available in group view. |
| Values still look wrong after editing | Give the recalculation a moment, then refresh the page. |
| You deleted a trade by accident | Re-add it manually or via file import. |
